Healthier, More Even Skin

The Cosmelan peel is one of the most effective treatments for sun damage and discoloration. Made of a mixture of highly effective ingredients, this peel exfoliates pigmentation, reduces redness, improves overall skin tone, and even provides a slight tightening effect.

What Can the Cosmelan Peel Address?

  • Sun damage and discoloration
  • Facial redness
  • Skin tone
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dull skin

How it Works

The secret of the Cosmelan peel is within its powerful cocktail of ingredients. Vitamin C is an antioxidant — which is always good for the skin — that evens out skin tone.

Retinol triggers collagen production and speeds cellular turnover to lessen fine lines and wrinkles. Kojic acid halts the production of melanin within the skin, and phytic acid is a skin healer and protector. Azelaic acid encourages new skin cell production and lightens pigmentation, and hydroquinone improves pigmented areas as well, along with brightening the skin.

What Happens During Treatment?

Before treatment, your skin will be cleansed, and we will apply acetone to even it out. Once your skin is prepped, we will apply the Cosmelan solution, which looks and feels like peanut butter. In fact, it’s often referred to as “the peanut butter peel”. The peel is applied evenly in a “spackle” type of coverage, and while it doesn’t hurt at all, some patients do feel a mild tingling as it works on the skin. Once the peel has been properly applied, you will leave our office with it still on, and you must leave it on your face for 8-10 hours.

Recovery and Results

After your Cosmelan peel, you’ll have some redness, swelling, peeling, and slight irritation (like a sunburn) for about two weeks.

This is all completely normal, and part of the recovery process. You will need to refrain from wearing makeup 7-10 days following treatment.

After two weeks, your skin will have shed the sun damage, discoloration, and other concerns. Maximum results are visible at about 4-5 weeks, and long-term results usually last 18 months. You should only need one Cosmelan peel treatment, although if you’re interested in maintenance sessions, we can discuss this during your consultation.
