How does Lumenis CO2 Laser Resurfacing Treat The Skin?

This ablative laser removes the thin outer layer of skin (epidermis) and heats the underlying skin (dermis), which stimulates the growth of new collagen fibers. As the skin heals and regrows, firmer, younger looking, skin appears.

A Smoother, More Youthful Appearance

Lasers, including the CO2 laser, have been used to treat various skin conditions for the past several decades. Recent innovations have transformed the CO2 laser into a more precise and controlled device.

This intense beam of light can now vaporize thin layers of skin to create a smoother and more youthful appearance — and Dr. Grossman is able to fine-tune and individualize treatment to address each area of the face separately.

CO2 laser resurfacing can be done on the entire face, or target specific areas like the eyelids or around the mouth. In addition to resurfacing your skin, the laser has a mild tightening effect, which can be an added benefit in areas like the lower eyelid where the skin may become loose over time.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Dr. Grossman's innovative techniques will provide you with exceptional results with just one treatment. However, depending on your aesthetic goals and area(s) of concern, you may want to combine CO2 laser resurfacing with other procedures for the Kustom Karyng Lift.

FAQ

How is (CO2) laser skin resurfacing different?

How is (CO2) laser skin resurfacing different?

One of the advantages that CO2 laser resurfacing offers is the heat that is generated during the procedure. This heat actually causes the collagen within the skin to shrink and contract. This is why patients get a “mini-lift” from this procedure. While it doesn’t achieve a true facelift (where skin and fat are surgically lifted), it can, in the appropriate patient, provide good shrinkage of the skin. This is different than other lasers such as the erbium: YAG laser, which does not provide collagen contraction.

Recovery and Results

Following your treatment of CO2 laser resurfacing in Santa Monica, you will have new surface skin in 7-10 days. After CO2 laser resurfacing, the skin will be red and sensitive. Healing takes approximately 1-2 weeks, but persistent redness may be seen for a few months after the treatment.

Makeup can usually be applied two weeks after treatment, and sun exposure must be avoided the first six weeks following. With a proper skincare regimen, your CO2 laser resurfacing results will last for years. Although your skin will improve with treatment, a subsequent touch-up may be necessary, particularly with deeper lesions.

What sets Grossman Dermatology apart from other practices, besides our outstanding results,  is our dedication to ensuring you have the best experience before, during, AND after your treatment.
