No More Unwanted Hair

Laser hair removal applies laser light energy directly to hair follicles where growth is unwanted. When this energy is absorbed by the pigment within the hair, the energy is turned into heat, and the hair follicle loses its ability to grow hair.

Key Advantages of Laser Hair Removal

  • No more shaving, which can be time-consuming
  • No more uncomfortable waxing or electrolysis
  • No more razor burn, itchiness, irritation, or ingrown hairs
  • Body hair reduction is 90% permanent
  • Skin that is always ready to be seen
  • Excellent for those with excessive body hair

Am I a Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

If you’re in the Santa Monica or NYC area and you’re interested in laser hair removal, it may be perfect for you. Those who are ideal candidates for laser hair removal are in general good health and want to remove or reduce unwanted body hair. They are seeking an alternative to shaving, waxing, or electrolysis. Laser hair removal works best on people with light skin and dark hair, and patients with darker pigmentation may not respond well. In addition, lighter color hairs such as blonde, white, or gray are less responsive to laser treatments.

Our Methods of Hair Removal at Grossman Dermatology

PhotoDerm Laser

The PhotoDerm® laser uses the pigment found within the hair to absorb energy from the laser and destroy the hair follicle. Results would indicate that the treatment effects are very long-lasting, at least six months, and in some it may be permanent.

Diolaze

Diolaze® stands out from other laser hair removal systems because it’s more comfortable for patients. It includes a cooling feature that numbs the skin before, during, and after treatment. In addition, Diolaze is able to treat larger areas at a time, making sessions much quicker.

What is Diolaze?

Manufactured by InMode, a highly respected company with an outstanding track record of developing safe aesthetic technologies, Diolaze features advanced monitoring technology and automatic temperature shut-off controls to protect the skin. Diolaze can treat up to Skin Type VI, is powerful enough to target and treat even the most stubborn hair, and is virtually painless due to strong built-in cooling. Diolaze treatments take between 5-45 minutes, depending on the size of the area(s) being treated.

What is PhotoDerm?

The PhotoDerm laser treats larger areas effectively because it removes more than one hair at a time. There is minimal discomfort during treatment, no downtime, and the skin is left looking smoother and silkier. Laser hair removal is an ongoing process that may require multiple sessions, with optimal improvement typically taking approximately 3-6 treatments (each spaced 1-3 months apart). The hair which regrows can then be treated every six months if necessary.

Expected Results After Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal offers effective and long-lasting results for individuals seeking to reduce unwanted hair growth. Most patients experience a significant reduction in hair density and thickness after completing a series of laser hair removal sessions. The treated hair typically becomes finer and lighter in color, with slower regrowth over time. While results may vary depending on factors such as skin type, hair color, and hormonal influences, many patients achieve permanent hair reduction in the treated areas. Laser hair removal can provide smoother, more hair-free skin, with results that are superior to traditional methods like shaving or waxing. It's essential to undergo multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart to target hair follicles in different growth phases and achieve optimal outcomes.

What areas are typically treated with laser hair removal?

The most commonly treated areas are the face and bikini line. The neck, arms, back, underarms, and other areas can be treated as well.

Are laser hair removal results permanent?

It’s important for those considering laser hair removal to understand the “permanency” of the treatment. Once your unwanted hair has fallen out, it won’t grow back — but new hair follicles can develop, and hair growth can still come from those. Multiple treatments can help with this.

What is the process like?

A few days following your treatment, you will see the treated hairs beginning to shed. Be aware that these hairs will grow back, but they grow back much finer. Then they will eventually shed again. This process repeats until the unwanted hairs don’t grow back at all.
